XCali - That method was a solution for a map that is predominantly line work with a fairly uniform background. Its meant to fade the line work in the immediate area of each letter, so that the letters don't get all tangled up with the line work, but without adding a glow that doesn't really go with the parchment. I'm not sure how you would apply it to a map that is predominantly shading and colour like yours is, XCali. Maybe you can adapt it in some way and make an XCali method for it. Of you may find that sticking to your current solution of having a glow around the letters is the best way for you.
