The Cartographers’ Guild is a forum created by and for map makers and aficionados, a place where every aspect of cartography can be admired, examined, learned, and discussed. Our membership consists of professional designers and artists, hobbyists, and amateurs—all are welcome to join and participate in the quest for cartographic skill and knowledge.
Although we specialize in maps of fictional realms, as commonly used in both novels and games (both tabletop and role-playing), many Guild members are also proficient in historical and contemporary maps. Likewise, we specialize in computer-assisted cartography (such as with GIMP, Adobe apps, Campaign Cartographer, Dundjinni, etc.), although many members here also have interest in maps drafted by hand.

) ist he fact that for „Fedir“ I used a mobile workflow for the first time in my professional work. I worked on these maps during summer and I didn’t want to sit in a darkened office all day when it was warm and sunny outside. So I decided to make an experiment how much of my workflow I could transfer to iPad (using the apps Sketchbook pro and Procreate). I must admit I kind of underestimated these mobile apps until then. I more or less just looked at them like a „nice gadget for sketching“, but it surprised and amazed me how powerful they actually are. With the exception of some finishing touches (which I did on my desktop PC for convenience reasons and access to my texture library) I was able to do almost the entire thing, from start to finish, on the tablet. So yeah, I am almost enthusiastic about it.
