I have no experience with map creation software. I'm writing a sci-fi novel and need to create a map for an Earth-like planet. A friend recommended Inkarnate and I used it to create a serviceable world (a continent), but it's basically restricted to medieval fantasy-type icons/symbols/styles, etc. Can someone please suggest software I can use to have many more realistic options? I'm willing to put in the time to learn it, but as I say, I have no experience, and I can't draw!

Also....I'm getting back into photography and I'll need to learn image editing, so I have been researching image-editing software....I'm learning towards PS Elements rather than CS6, because I'm not a working photo pro and it seems that Elements will do everything I need. So I'm wondering if I kill two birds with one stone and just use Elements for map/world building? Or would I have to get the full CS6? Or....am I better off keeping it separate and getting Bryce, or Terragen...? I would really appreciate some knowledgeable advice here. Thanks!
