We've done challenges in the past where we offered some 'key words', and asked you to make a map from them. We're doing a variation on that idea, but using photos instead of words. Attached is a collage of images, and these are the basis of this month's challenge.
There are a few ways you can do this. You can pick one photo from the collage, and make a map based on what it shows. You don't have to faithfully reproduce exactly what you see in the photo, though you're welcome to do that if you want to. You can use your imagination to create your own interpretation of the pic. The photo is a starting point, and so long as your map shows a recognisable connection to the original image, you can go in whatever direction you choose, and you can change the scale to whatever you like. There are plenty of options whether you prefer larger area regional maps, smaller area encounter maps, or single structures.
If you really want to embrace the challenge, try to work 2 - 3 images (or more!) into your map. So, you could create a regional map that incorporates a few of the geographical features shown in the photos. Or combine some of the images, for example, an island with its curious old tower, a meandering river with a mysterious bridge etc etc. You can develop your idea any way you want, so long as we can understand how it relates to the original photo(s).
I've posted links to the original images at the bottom of this comment, if you want to see them full size.
Here's the legal bit...
- Title your thread like this: October 2018 Challenge: Your Title Goes Here
- Use the ### Latest WIP ### tag every time you post a new update (there's a handy button in the comment box toolbar). If you don't use this tag, your map won't show up in the thumbnail scraper. There's also a chance you'll be overlooked when it's time to set up the poll.
- The challenge will end around 9pm UK time on Wed 31st October.
So, Guild, let's see what you can do with these photos. There's a gold compass up for grabs!
