Asgard 2598 AD.jpg

The final version of my home-brew Icelandic setting for the Degenesis RPG. Thanks to the awesome input and help from the Degenesis Discord community. I'm pretty happy with the result.

I used Paint.net for the picture.

The backstory is that when the Eshaton happened, it set off a series of chain-reaction eruptions throughout Iceland’s volcanic regions. The larger, blue circles are the volcanoes themselves (many still active) and the smaller ones are the result of craters made by the ejecta debris or sympathetic smaller volcanic eruptions. The volcanic activity and released geothermal energy has served to slow the progress of the Ice Age that is still under way.

The survivors of the Eshaton are largely located in a small region of the land, and are a loose collection of clans that has taken up the “Old ways” and now call themselves the Aesir. Other small clans or tribes of nomadic hunters are present in the land but for the most part, Asgard, as it’s come to be known is largely cut off from the rest of the world.

The landscape of Iceland has changed greatly, with new, volcanic mountains and a vast woodland has reclaimed much of the western realm.

The Players will be part of an expedition northward to discover the source of a faint signal.

I haven’t got all the details worked out yet, but my current line of thought is trending towards the biggest threat to the Aesir are the strange beasts and hostile tribes that have come from the mountainous lands of Vathna (once the glacier of Vatnajokull) and beyond. When the Eshaton happened it exposed a hidden RG Facility and this is the source of many problems and threats in the land.

I tried hard to emulate the amazing work of Steffen Brand -the creator of the official Degenesis maps -so that my players could really feel like they are part of the canon world.
