first off - you can "go advanced" in your posts and attach the image - then it won't break the frame..
Secondly, yes, it the lands look good - the texts are much to dominating however - they need to be toned a lot down
pulled the basic shapes from Werthead's mostly accurate Malazan map. put some textures in etc...

Looks nice. I'd bring the text down in size (possibly change the font too) as Tilt said. Generally text size correllates to the size of the area it's describing (big for oceans, small for cities and towns)
I agree with the previous posters. The text is too dominant.
On a good note, I really like the clouds. It gives a greater sense of realism.
Yesterday today was tomorrow.

Although I agree with the previous posts, I can see why you would want to give that text concept a try. It does look pretty cool. Might work as an animation sequence in a 3d movie.
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go..
maybe this is a bit better?
thats much better. A thing you might concider is using text size to show the size of the element.
Example: town and cities have the smallest size, woods sligthly larger, mountains larger yet, countries and oceans largest.

The new font is more readable.
* You use two different types of drop-shadow like effects. A black one and one that uses the color of the text Is there significance to that? I think the black effect is more readable and more attractive.
* The map is kind of confusing those not familiar with the books, there are big labels all around, but with most it is unlcear weather they indicate a city, region or continent. Dots for cities would help clear that up. You use orange for water features, but it took me a while to figure that out, since orange is kind of counterintuitive in that role.
* Google Earth view: Did you chop the arctic off? Why can't either of the ice caps be seen?
jeez, tough crowd, lol
thanks for the feedback from everyone...
I didn't even see the different colored shadows! I should probably wear my contacts when I work on my maps,
got a little lazy I guess...
hope this one is easier to look at
I left the clouds off on this one as well, should help improve the clarity
