Sounds like a good idea, got some thoughts already.
Yes, I think this would be a fun challenge.
No thank you sir, may I (not) have another?
While it is true that most Dungeons and Dragons campaigns start in a tavern, not all do, and even in those the character of the environment can play a huge influence on the flavor of the campaign.
Design an environment: tavern, village, town, setting that launches a fantasy role playing campaign. In this context, fantasy can include any genre including science fiction and horror. This environment should include one or more maps, descriptions and any supplementary information required to begin play. The nature of the on-going campaign should be left generic for others to benefit from your creation, although hooks to future adventures can be present.

If the radiance of a thousand suns was to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...I am become Death, the Shatterer of worlds.

Why is it that the first day of a new campaign is always my favorite day? It's like the air is fresher or something.

It's cuz the air isn't full of spell reagents and burnt hair and flesh. It's usually inside a bar somewhere where you've been flirting with the bar matrons so it just smells like old beer and body odor. Or maybe that's just how all of mine start

I predict this will be one of the best challenge events ever!
The opening scene where it all begins is filled with wonder and mystery. There is no grit yet, the characters are not overwhelmed in the life and death struggle of the next moment and thus, all things are possible. It is the moment of the dream's beginning.
Seriously, this is the kind of thing where every entry can be a seed for a new campaign. I think lots of lurkers will be watching this.
Great idea

Eloquently said Jax. Who doesn't have a campaign swirling around somewhere in their head, and what more heady moment than that instant before the boundaries start to form?
My friends and I have been known to put a lot of time and back story into a character before they've ever survived the first battle. Silly yet... satisfying.

I find that backstory stuff much more fun than the game
