Found an interesting GIMP tutorial and I'm going to give it a spin this coming weekend (I have a friend who just bought Borderlands and is addicted to it so until we beat it throughout this week he's never going to relent) and see what I turn out with.
I notice some of you scan some rough sketches for the basis of your maps I find that really interesting!

Welcome aboard! Good luck with the tut and post up a WIP while you work on it, it'll give you a chance to get feedback and/or ask questions.
Have fun with Borderlands ... my xbox buddies and I have played that thing to death. I must say, the writers did an excellent job working in funny homages everywhere.
