Greetings!

I'm a noob when it comes to any kind of cartography, but being a noob has never stopped me from completing my goals before. I believe that as long as you have a will and the resources that there is no limit to what you can do. I have the will and this site is the best resource I have found on the internet for what I want to accomplish, which is create fantasy maps that I would like to put into the video game that my team is developing.

I will begin posting my creations for critique very soon. I'm looking forward to everyone's input and, once I learn the ropes, I look forward to giving my input to this great community.

Hi Sylok, we have had a number of game creators and programmers here from full on big title stuff to ascii MUD conversions and a range in between. Are you permitted to describe what kind of terrain / map your hoping to build because we have come up with a variety of novel ideas to make them for people. Sometimes they want an arty piece where you overlay splats of sprites and text like the ole Baldurs maps and others want 3D textured terrain for game engines. The processes to make each of those are so different its hard to suggest what might be needed at this point.

Sometimes they want an arty piece where you overlay splats of sprites and text like the ole Baldurs maps and others want 3D textured terrain for game engines.

We will most likely be doing both, but i'm gonna start with the arty piece that will be brought up when the player wants to look at where he is in comparison to the region he/she is in. the literal top down view of the terrain will be depicted on the interface inside of a compass so the player can see different things that are immediately surrounding them. That's the plan anyway.
