Welcome to the guild!
Theres plenty of tutorials to learn from, and also feel free to share some of your hand drawn maps as well!
Just discovered your fine group, and am very impressed (and a bit envious). I've been playing role-playing, and war games for a long time. Most of my maps were pencil or pen and paper. I've tried a couple cartography programs, but nothing for several years. I guess I'm a bit picky and too lazy to learn a more complicated system.
Background. I have a BS in Geography, and was making maps with T-square, and triangle back in the late 70's. Now I work for a Utility company as a planner and use Microstation as part of my duties. It's great for technical drawings, but wouldn't work well for this. Not to mention I think Microstation costs around $5,000 for the full version.
Anyways I look forward to learning from you, and maybe being able to share a few things.

::Blushes:: Umm... If I still have them and haven't lost em or thrown them out. ::sigh::
I've found I like to use a topomap-like style. It can be very time consuming, and also crowd the map with lots of info, but if you set the elevation per line well, and use a fine line it doesn't crowd the map. All this wont help if I can't find any examples... ::mutters::

Starving, if you like the topo map style, you should do a search for a tut on the Swiss Style of topo maps. We have it here some where, and I have also seen it on the net.
I would also suggest downloading Gimp (it is free) and trying some of the tuts for it. RobA's Regional tut is a great way to learn Gimps functions and what it can do. I believe the Swiss Style tut would also work with Gimp, but might require tweeking as I believe that it is actually for Photoshop (simular to Gimp, but different).
Anyhoot, Welcome and like ppl have said before....Post 'em if ya got 'em. Even if they are only just started. Best way to get better is to get the ppl here to comment and critique as you go.
