    Default Mechanol

    Hey there,

Here is the finished commissioned map of "Mechanol" for Empyrean Games, posted here at 50% size.

Here is a little bit of background info...

"Mechanol is old. It has seen the rise and fall of countless civilizations, perhaps has more of its history behind it than future left ahead. Cities have been built over the ruins of other cities, gears have rusted and turned to dust, and the Great Cog spins ever on. Mechanol is something of a world sized junkheap. Humans live out their lives on mountains that walk, Clockwork colossi capable of sustaining entire cities. Golem-smiths create life out of metal and rust. Gearmancers compel society away from entropy. Clockworks, well, the Clockworks do a little of everything."

The map was done entirely in Photoshop CS.

    Fonts used were:

"Handserif" for the labels and legend text.
"English" for the flowery cartouche text.
"DuererLatinConstructionCapitals" for the title in the cartouche.

I also used several cog brushes from a set called SS Gears by Obsidian Dawn. http://www.obsidiandawn.com

I once again used one of Coyotemax's fantastic parchment papers so a big cheers for that.

The canyon is drop-dead gorgeous but I like the lil totem/emblem/kingdom thingies the best.

Absolutely beautiful. The rift looks kind of funky, but there must be a in game reason.

I love this map Ramah. It is gorgeous.

Nice compass integration with the steamworks border. Awesome symbols for cities and locations. I'm sure the publishers of the game have got to be ecstatic. I haven't seem many maps that even come close to this in the games I've played.

Thanks a lot guys. The map was certainly a challenge at times and I learned a lot while doing it.

I've updated the original post with a small piece of background for the map.
