For those of you who just don't take this seriously enough
So you wanna be a Cartographer, you should realize the kind of trouble you could cause: google-map-mistake-triggers-invasion.
edit: in case the sarcasm failed to bleed through. I think this is pretty ridiculous. Don't people know they can't trust everything they see on the Internet? That's just crazy.

Google seems to be in all sorts of hot water this last month... but a full on invasion bust be a new one even for them.
Scary stuff.

In "fairness" (ha!) to the Nicaraguan pointing at the google map, I am quite certain he is aware that you can't trust everything on the net. People have often sought flimsy justification for invasions in the past and that is what is occurring here. This is part of a long term border dispute and Nicaragua went so far as to ask google to NOT correct the map according to the article.
As a note, the article also mentioned that Nicaragua began dredging a river which serves as a border in order to change its course. Such changes that may occur over time, whether intentional, accidental, or merely a result of nature, are an aspect of cartography that I had not thought much about til now.
