Default WIP : Village of Nostar

Recently I was playing around and made some interesting enough textures so I decided to try making a town with em and see where it leads. Here's the fruits to this point.

I'm sure that it's meant to be a dense forest but I'd chop some holes in to break up the solidity of it...you know, sort of define each tree a little more rather than this big dense cloud. Pretty cool, though.
If the radiance of a thousand suns was to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...I am become Death, the Shatterer of worlds.

That is one *incredibly* regular town. Must be an army outpost.

I know it's very angular and regular, its just easier to test things out with in my mind. Trying to devise a personal style for small towns. This is starting to shape up. To be honest it's starting to look like mearrins work.

Worked a bit and almost finished this one. I think I will revisit this style soon on a free commission and apply it to a town that doesn't have such a regular layout. I have some extra labeling to do and that's about it.

Edit: Forgot to turn a layer back on, updated pic.

Heh... reminds me of villages from RPG's, notably some of the pokemon games, of course with prettier artwork.

I realized have a scale of a square = 10' didn't make sense at all. So instead it will be 5', unfortunately I having a hard time adding one in that is consistent with the style of the remainder of the labeling. Also I'm thinking about doing a decorative floral border but having the forest texture and over lay so dark it's hard making it work. Any advice?

If you're talking about using the floral thingy from the title cartouche then that probably won't work no matter how light you color it - the lines are too thin to stand out over the heavy texture. You'll have to plop down some solid color border underneath of it to see it and then it'll be fine.

You should check out the finished version, not much different but its in the other sub-forum. I'm gonna copy this style over or attempt to with the Rookdell Landing.
