    Default Battlemap scale object- Cart- First attempt at tokens

    Here is my first attempt at creating usable tokens for a game. It is a top down view of a medieval cart. I used real wood textures in the work and then watercolored them up slightly to diffuse some of the sharpness of them. I am still not sure about real world textures in battlemap pieces. I see alot of great art that I think are using real textures as the basis of the piece, but they always manage to cover them in such a way as to make them also seem painted by hand. Anyone know if real world textures are used alot in professional battlemaps?

    Anyways, I digress. Here is the cart. Let me know what you think and what can be improved. Thanks.

    Looks nice but I think the wheels could be moved outward a bit. A small rock could get wedged in between the wheel and the sidewall and you'd drive in circles.

    Nice cart - good colors I'd make the shadow a little weaker to reflect the height above ground better - it is big wheels to the center has to be high up
    I do use real textures in my battlemaps, but mostly I paint stuff. The problem with real textures is that then everything has to be real textures, which can be hard to do. So its easier to convert the textures to handdrawn to fit with textures that you don't have.

    Thank you both for responding. I assumed that on alot of maps that a texture was used to start and painted/modified to closer match the rest of the style. Without giving away any trade secrets, do you have any recommendations on how to convert them? Are you filtering them, or hand modifying/painting them to make them seem more art than picture?

    I think most of us in here willingly tells what we do... its all in the wrist you know .... I sometimes use a filter like water color or some such but often paint my way to the right result.
