Very nice Mou - Congrats on a nice piece finished.
This map was drawn very, very slowly as part of a commission (hence the large watermark) and the actual map is 3x larger. There may still be labelling going on the map at some point.
Very nice Mou - Congrats on a nice piece finished.

Looks great! What's the painting in the background?
Awesome work there, I'll admit I was thinking the same thing as Sapiento
I really like the way the crater turned out, and the rift type valley.

Thanks guys The background is a few pieces from an engraving of Crossing of the Granicus by Gerard Audran. The original painting was by Charles Le Brun.
Looks amazing man, I love the cracks and lines on the sea... I was wondering how you got it into those two circles? Did you just draw it like that, or as a rectangle and somehow distort it into circles?
Blindking, it's actually pretty simple. There's a program called Hugin that can easily re-project images into a variety of different projections. Naeddyr wrote a tutorial for using it a while back.
I made a bunch of different reference images (some attached below, for fun) and warped them into a stereographic projection with Hugin, and then traced over those reference images to draw the map.
I tried a few different ways of doing the coastlines, but I wasn't very happy with the uniformity that I was getting, so I ended up taking an image of the Earth's coastline and chopping it up into little tiny bits, and then putting them back together again to make up these coastlines. Some of the smaller islands are probably recognizable, and I think I left India mostly intact.
The heightmap was made using a variation of a tutorial by su_liam. That then got plugged into wilbur for erosion so that I could get the rivers in places that made sense, instead of just plopping them down wherever I felt like.
Nicely done Moutarde, one to be proud of!

Great work - and thanks for the explanation and further links on how to do those projections!

I hear you on the "how do I make the coastlines look good" - I've taken to using real world maps and chopping them up too
(For what it's worth, I never would have noticed India without you mentioning.. well played!)
Hey, the resource is there so why not use it
