I decided for some small city icons and added a border, a cartouche for the title, compass and scale bar.

I like these icons, unobtrusive but you can still tell what they are.

My only little nit-pick is that the rivers are on top of the icons, you might consider changing that.

I shifted some of the icons to avoid an overlap with the rivers.

I also replaced the cartouche for the title, I didn't really like it.

    Is the font to squiggly?

Well, it is very squiggly, but it's legible. So I guess it's just a question of preference.

BTW, how long is a milliaria dezimale novae?

Maybe make the coastline a tiny bit heavier? I'm losing it a bit now the map is coming together with all the elements. The font looks great to me and in keeping with the rest of the map's character.

A made the wave lines stronger. A mile is kilometer.
I also did a coloured version.

I absolutely love this map, I normally prefer the un-coloured version but I really like the palette on this one. The mountains are just amazing and something I will definitely try to emulate.

I think the colours are awesome as well. Possibly adding a really dim wash filter effect to the colours would make them look more like watercolours and even more in keeping with the hand-made look. Maybe an overlay or screen ...
