    Default Xiousing District Map

Here's a fairly recent isometric neighborhood map created for the Forgotten Realms and published back in Dungeon issue 195. I was going for a bit of a Chinatown flair and it was my first attempt at a full color iso map in my traditional D&D style.

One thing to note though is that it isn't a true isometric projection. Unfortunately, scale bars don't work too well when the entire image is displayed in 3d. The image warping results in horizontal dimensions skewing away from the vertical. You can compensate for this though by keeping the overall viewing plane flat while visualising the details in 3d, like I have done here. A bit of forced perspective gives you the feel of depth while still allowing for accuracy in distance measurement. Otherwise you need two scale bars and things get a bit complicated.

Beautiful map as always, man. Great stuff.

A wonderful map! I love the hand-drawn houses and the whole balanced look.

But I found a typo: vegatables should be vegetables.

Very nice. I have always loved your maps. It is good to see you reaching out for something different. I have called you the master of "top down" town maps. Your D&D style and color fits well with your iso buildings. My only suggestion is that you might add some extra "shadow" or "line weight" to the under side of your land features to help make them pop more with the iso. However, It is beautiful just as it is.

Ooops! I mistakenly attached an older version of the map. Here's the final art, sans typo and with more pop.

Oh yeah! that is what I am talking about, some pop! Amazing that such small changes can make that kind of difference. Keep up the great work.

A beautiful map, however my last name is Rice, so therefore I am demanding royalties for it being contained in your work.

Someday that will work, hasn't worked on Uncle Ben yet, dang it.
