I think your map really turned out well Torstan. Excellent, clever and subtle use of the shading colours and its really clear at the same time. Your players are going to have great time with it. Thanks for taking us through the process too.

I have been drawing this over the last week for a game tomorrow and it is finally done. Here are two versions, with more/less colour intensity.

The WIP thread is here.
This is a map that will be used with maptool. The party has found the location of a hidden camp of pirates and bandits. The pirates are holed up for a few weeks conducting repairs on their ship. This close proximity with the bandits has inflamed tensions between the groups that only tolerate each other normally. In addition, monsters have moved into the treasure cave, further exacerbating the situation. The party arrives into the middle of this. If the blunder in swinging swords, the two groups will unit against the common enemy. If they play it more subtly they have a chance to play the two groups off against each other and significantly reduce their odds. Should be interesting to see how the game goes.

The internet! It\'ll never catch on.
Software Used: Terranoise, Wilbur, Terragen, The Gimp, Inkscape, Mojoworld
A definite work of art, from start to finish.

Very nice use of drawing and colour. Very pleasing and not overprocessed.
If I may ask, what do you sketch with? What do you use painter for?

Thanks for the compliments! It was fun to draw and try to move the style of the cave maps on to an outdoor setting. I can already see a few things I want to try next time. We'll have to see how it goes.
@Neonknight: I'm sure I wouldn't call it a work of art from beginning to end. The beginning sketches were really ropey
@Sigurd, I used Gimp for the whole map. I sketched with a 5px brush for the first shots and then used a new layer to ink carefully over the top (2-3px Ink brush in Gimp). All in Gimp with a Wacom Graphire4 A6 tablet.
Very nice indeed. Yoink.
Really, really nice.
I have to admit to having some doubts abou this at first. I think I just couldn't quite see where you were going, but the end result is great, and it doesn't get any better than pirates anyway!
After a specific request, here is a png of the ship with and without anchors. Note the white background is actually transparent.

If anyone else wants an element of this map, please say and I'll put together a version.
