Default May 2012 Entry: Untitled Fantasy Continent

This is my first go at a challenge, but since most of my mapping is done by hand I figured it would be a decent one to get involved in. So I've got my first draft here in my sketchbook, took a lot of time practicing the mountains. I plan on the finished map being ink and watercolor.

Ok, I've got it to full-size now, which allowed me to add much more detail than in the smaller sketch. Even though the mountains seem like a big hit I don't feel like that style is going to work with what I have planned for this piece. I'm going to shift to the method where the range has a continuous ridge line. I feel that this will give a better impression of the scale of the area (it is much smaller than it looks when the range is represented by individual mountains.)

Thanks! I got in pretty late in the game so I hope I can finish on time. This is gonna be a huge world map for a D&D campaign I have in the works. The final version should be along the lines of 18" x 24" so I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew...

Wow! Thanks for all of the support, guys. But really, everything I've got has come from reading guides on this site and looking at what everyone else has done.
