This looks like a very fine map. Is it finished or are you going to work on it some more? Not that it doesn't look great already.![]()
This is a map set in a sciencefiction / spaceopera setting we are currently working on.
It shows the Pandora - Pentacharon which is something like the Bermuda Triangle just in space.
The hexagonal Icons symbolize 'stargates' which are fixed locked tunnels connecting two systems permanently and have a diameter of just above 1000m - the golden ones are the new human gates, the grey ones have been there for ages.
Actually in this world humans invented their stargates and jumpdrives - crossed into another area of the galaxy were they found spacetravelling cultures using the old gates. No one there really knows how this spacejumping and gatebuilding works and the humans still look at the old gates as a roman engineer would look at the golden gate bridge and say 'well it is a bridge and it works but I don't even know that materials ...'

Well you asked for some more, so I added some stuff - legend, names and a little more.
The map was created with Inkscape - which I like more and more

Interesting concept, and nice execution. It is however, a little unclear as to how the map represents an extreme environment. Perhaps you could elaborate.
Cheers,

What, the vacuum of space isn't extreme enough for you?
Travelling through space in that universe is done using a jumptechnology which creates the so called extraspatial dimension XS for short. Which is expanding 1 1/2 dimensional superstrings that go through spacetime to three dimensions where no time passes. Some time ago between 100.000 and 10.000 years before the action-time there was a war fought using weapons which based on XS technologies and they damaged the space-time in some areas. One of this areas is the Pentacharon (which is the fourdimensional equivalent of a tetraeder). So travelling there is very dangererous. Some ships go in only few return.
