My name is Robert. I'm a designer working in Montreal. I like biking, fantasy, science fiction, and video games.
I'm also interested in world design and would like to make a living doing it.
I've created a fantasy world called Nimia and a few flash games based on it. I also have a SciFi city called Junx City in the works.
My interest in cartography stems from my work on the Nimia World map. There's a lot of great work on this forum and ive ended up coming here time and time again while i researched how to make great maps. I've finally decided to join. I'm looking to learn more from the great examples here and create an even better map.
I'm currently fleshing out my Nimia world map (http://nimiaworld.com) as a background for a new fantasy game I'm working on called Nimian Hunter Salvation (http://facebook.com/nimianhunter). I'll post some of the map screenshots in the forum.
Thanks for the warm welcome and the useful site.

gotta say that is a nice looking map.
did you use Ascension's tut for it? I am also interested in how you arranged for the panning map...

Thank you!
I don't know Ascensions tute but I will definitely look for it now.
The map panning is done using Leaflet, an open source JavaScript map API. I was looking for something that would let me make zoomable maps on both mobile touch and desktop. It is a really incredible project, check it out.
I'm already learning a lot just reading people's comments on this forum. I'm very open to constructive criticism to help me improve my maps so any comments are welcome .
Well I've just read Acension's tute and there is a lot to learn from it. Very generous of him to take the time to share his knowledge. It's seems he is very well known here - kind of like a cartographic rock star Thanks for pointing it out.
Be welcome and excelent map. It is really impressive.
Yeah, we have quite a few people that hang around passing out nuggets of mapping goodness. A loooong mosey through the tutorial section will show you all kinds of tricks. In fact it seems to be one of the reasons that this site is so active...the tuts, the help, not to mention the atmosphere.
And thanks for the JavaScript lead

Yes that Leaflet Javascript library is the best. Here's the link:
