That's pretty cool! Nice work.
image.jpgHere is my finished repro of the map which will be featured in THE HOBBIT. Original artist is Daniel Reeve. I looked at pictures online to draw this. Map size is around 11.5x15.4 . Done on 90lb. Watercolor paper.
Here it is in natural lighting outside.

Here is another map. This one is not 100% my hand drawing. For this one, I used the mountain, hand with runes and dragon at top of mountain. I traced them then colored and replaced my drawings with them. I really liked the detailed lines on the mountain, made most likely with a square nib. I then water colored for aging.

Thank you for the kind words.
Really looking forward to the movie. Loved the look of the map shown in some of the trailers and hoped to get a replica, but they are expensive at the weta store. Decided to make my own. Really pleased with the way this one turned out. When held up to a light source the moon letters become visible.

How did you do those moon runes so that they are highlighted when held up ?
Back of map is black except for the rune letters so light passes through runes more than the remaining surface area.
This looks amazing!! Great Job!!
Wow, I'm impressed! Not only is this a fantastic replica, but the rune letters trick was really clever. Have some rep.

Thanks. While I did come up with the idea myself, I later learned that it is the same method used on the prop replica for sale at the weta cave store, so it isn't my pioneering. Thanks for the kind words and rep.
