Default September 2013 Entry - AES - SIROCCO

A.E.S. ( AEGIS class EXTRACTION SHIP ) SIROCCO is a Mining / Extraction vehicle used to collect and purify rare ores found in the most ARID places. Out fitted with "Levitron" out-riggers, Heavy Armour , And specially designed Sand Anchors it can safely Weather the worse Desert storms . It searches out rare mineral deposits in the arid wastelands and uses a solar furnace to purify them . Powered by a combination of wind and solar energy it can remain "Out Port" for several months at a time.

Still not sure if I should go High tech Or Fantasy with this Yet ! The basic layout will stay much the same but the details as well as the Styles used to represent it will vary significantly .

I think I know where I am going with this ? I have a newbie question or really I guess a series of questions.
Is there a consensus as to where individual elements of a map "SHOULD"Be placed. Obviously there are preferences but are there actual rules. To make myself clear SHOULD the Title be "Centered at the TOP" or placement is at the cartographer's preference based perhaps on the placement of other elements. Keeping in mind this will be a fantasy map as apposed to a Real World one.

No real rules I believe. The only thing I can think of, is not to put things where they're hard to read, otherwise then that it's completely your preference.

WOW I am really out of my comfort zone on this. I chose a style I have never done; Using a toll I was intimidated by ( Pen And Path Tool) We'll have to see where this goes.

    Ship's Log 1107 W 5-08

Dunesman Quarra called down from the "LOFT" with a sighting off the starboard bow. Says it is substantial. Let's hope , this season has been very lean to date ! Adjusted heading to 223.5.

Based on alternate Technologies (think steam punk with out the steam) . The wind turbines turn generators which charge the Voltaic gel. This electrically charges the plates on the bottom of the ship's hull and pontoons to create a Static field which allows the ship rise slightly (inches) above the sand and slide with greatly reduce friction . The front of the hull and pontoons are curved and armored to allow the ship to rise over the dunes just as a aquatic ship rises over larger waves.Top speed is about the same as real military vessels app 35 mph. Main propulsion is by the main sail and secondary airfoils . Steering is by aft air rudders.

    Ship's Log 1107 W 5-10

We have reached the area of the sighting. Cursory examination suggest that there may well be a rich deposit beneath. We'll settle the ship tomorrow and do a sample extraction. Dunesman Quarra reports the sighting of a possible wreck off in the distance I'll dispatch the Sand skipper to check it out in the morning !

Thanks Bogie It's kind of victorian-esque ?? I am having difficulties and it will likely evolve as it goes! I need to work out the front elevation then on to the decks .
