I really like where you're going with this! To add one more (constructive, I hope) critics : the only thing that bothered me are the icons. The shadow effect is too strong and doesn't really works with the rest, imho.
The font looks good to me. I really like how this is progressing.

Xpian: That's a really good idea, and I'll try it out! As for the font, that actually IS a small caps version - the font is called Windlass.
Ilanthar: I'll tone down the drop shadow and see how it works.
Ah, I see. One of my favorite things about Mrs.Eaves is that the typeface has both a small caps and a petite caps. Fancy.
I love those city symbols, culturally differentiated even! This map is gorgeous.

Okay, added in a bit of noise per Xpian's suggestion and made the shadow on the cities a lot more subtle. And some more naming done.
### Latest WIP ###
Oooh. I literally went, "oooh." It's looking so good. Even the thumbnail looks good.
Hopefully I'll have the map itself done by this weekend, then I can start working on the actual invasion! Also in the planning stages are a vine-covered outer border for the maps, and some heraldry.
I haven't been keeping up with this challenge, so I'll be brief here in order to get to the other entries.
1. Font looks great--I've downloaded it for myself, thanks!--and, although small caps might work better, I'd like to look at both version before passing any form of judgement.
2. I agree with xpian, the blur makes the secondary texturing look much better.
3. Icons look nice, much better with reduced drop shadows.
Apologies for not having much constructive criticism (or any at all, really), but by the looks of it, you don't need it!
The map is already really beautifull and pleasant to look at, you truly have the thing to make a map readable, i'm a big fan of the way your labels are perfectly clear.
