    Wip New campaign = new world map, yayyy! WIP, second serious map ever.

    Hey guys, I've recently started worldbuilding for a new D&D campaign and I just finished an 8-hour mapping session!

    My last (first) map got lots of good and constructive feedback (found here: http://www.cartographersguild.com/fi...inent-map.html) but I wanted to switch the style up a bit, so I made use of Tear's excellent "Saderan" tutorial and came up with a new workflow that I'm really digging!

    Anyway here's the map, it needs lots of stuff still but the basic geography is all done...rip it to shreds with critique pls! <3

    Why do you have a huge desert between two huge forests with barely a gap? It's a bit awkward in that spot.
    Other than that, though, it's quite a fine piece of cartography.

    Pretty. You've learned about rivers, and these look fine.

    If you had some grassland color between the forests and that mid-southern desert, like NedS298 it'd gain plausibility.

    I'm looking at the big central archipelago and it's not clicking. Maybe those islands would do better with more variation, and more clumping? Seems a bit too much "all same-ish size, all evenly-ish spaced". I assume the topography is generated in the Saderan process, but once you've generated coastlines and inland landforms, would it be hard to manually shove some islands around?

    One doesn't have to shoot for realism in climate, but application of a few rules of thumb about rainfall and winds might create some useful/ interesting situations. Where's your equator? And does this run up to near-polar latitudes, or is it all in the not-much-distortion realm?

    Yeah the archipelago is ****...I need to redo that from scratch I think. I'm prolly just gonna hand-draw all of those islands in a way that looks more natural. more islands, smaller, with more of a flow to them.

    I think the big desert wasteland on the bottom continent (the whole continent is pretty implausible and I kind of regret its long rectangular-ish shape now but whatever) is going to end up being some blasted-with-magic type situation, but I'm not sure...

    If I try and make things fit with the larger, working-copy world map I've got going on (an equirectangular-ish projection) then the equator (if the world is indeed even spherical; I haven't decided, since the core concept of the world is that it was created by a long-dead pantheon to serve as a battleground upon which they settled disputes) would be probably just below that bottom continent, or possibly running along the lower edge. Same deal with the poles...not sure if there are really any but I imagine itd be a little bit above the range shown in this map.

    I need to figure out some basic wind stuff for sure...hrm.
