I think people just get busy. I'll have remind myself to visit more often as well... and start contributing again!
In the meantime, there are a lot of people who have used Ascension's styles as their gateway into fantasy cartography, and even improved on his techniques, so there's a good chance that someone else can answer questions almost as well as Ascension himself could.

You should try developing your own style of maps, that way people are like hey I wanna make a Tobydale style map...
