Default New to CG and looking to Commission

Hi folks. I've been browsing CG for a while now and tried my hand at a few tutorials. I'm an author and would really like a beautiful map for my books but I am beginning to lose hope of ever creating one myself. I simply don't have the time required to develop the skills.

I look forward to getting to know some lovely cartographers and hopefully finding the right person to work with

Hi I'm Dan I'm new to the CG. Noticed your post, would love to help out just to get my name and art out there. I work in theatrical design and visual art but never done commissions on my art before. Would be willing to create something for you here are some projects I've done for some of the local authors. Again I would do this for free to see how things would work. Let me know if your interested.

Can you be more specific HBLyne? What kind of books and what kind of maps are you looking for? Can you point to some maps here on CG that have a style such as you would want?

Hi Daniel, thank you so much for the offer. Your maps are beautiful. How do you feel about taking on a city map?

Apologies Chick, I did write a lengthy post last night with lots more info but the forum lost the post when I tried to submit it (possibly a glitch due to being on my ipad).

    So here goes again

My series of novels is called Echoes of the Past, the first of which is published with part 2 on the way and 4 parts in total. It's an urban fantasy series set in the fictional British city of Caerton, a cosmopolitan city of comparable size to Birmingham or Manchester (population approximately 2 million). Caerton is a coastal city, with a river running through the centre. It has large dockyards, a ruined castle and forests to the east. The city centre is densely packed with some of the oldest streets dating back to the Tudor period (so narrow and not straight). Further out are residential and commercial areas of varying ages and large industrial areas. There are several parks around the city and the eastern suburbs between the centre and the forest are very affluent and green.

I'm not certain what style I want, I think I'll know when I see it. I think I'm leaning towards a sort of monument-style, with key buildings enlarged, like this one of Paris: Rare Antique Maps: 1867 Guesnu Map of Paris and its Monuments, France

I'm not looking for full colour for use in the digital or print editions of the books, just black and white. However, I would love a full colour version to add to my website.

    I hope this helps.

Let me give it a shot I have done a few of these for friends, but it would be a good way for me to grow. I'll draw a thumbnail and see how you like it. At worst it might help build the concept and image.
