    Help New to digital mapping...

    ...unless you count MsPaint

    will be looking around, but if anyone has any tips for ways to use Paint to make tiles ?

    Just got AutoRealm, but not familiar with it...so any help would be awesome

    Well, one of the Cartographer's Choice maps was done in MS Paint, so it can be used to get great results if you're patient :-).

    Tiles of what? The particular subject matter matters ... personally I would use Paint for intentionally 8-bit pixell-y stuff, and any of several other free graphics apps for more complex work. But if you are a Paint ninja, show us your work; you might drag other MS Painters out of the woodwork. Even if you say 'dungeon floorplan tiles', the resolution you want could change how best to make elements for combining into a map.

    Autorealm is really easy. Just take your time to spend a few hours reading the tutorial and experimenting with creating closed and open lines and randomly filling and painting.
    Just do this : AutoREALM - it is fast and simple and teaches the basic things.

    never said I was particularly good at MsPaint just that I was familiar with the program...certainly not a ninja
    that said, I uploaded some of my hand-drawn stuff...

    ether under the GPL license or a free as in beer
    like wilber
    free but closed source
    Current Wilbur Version

    or The Gimp
    FREE and opensourced
    GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

    and you can do a lot with GPL'ed or MIT software
