Yeah, I think I might share your opinion, Azelor. I'm not too sure though. Here's the darkened version, anyway.

Some more of the mountains have been redone, as well. What do you guys think then?

Now you're getting there! Darken the shallows (the light blue) just bit to make more contrast with the land edges

    Here's an example: http://www.cartographersguild.com/al...chmentid=63661

Well, I might try doing what you're suggesting, and see how it looks. But you have to remember, I have quite a different style than that map. I have a lot more of the underwater terrain showing, and am aiming for a more realistic look.

If you want a more realistic look, it has to go darker.
If you want to preserve a unique style, I'd keep it lighter.

Personally, I like having the unique style. Darker than your original but not as dark as your last post.

It's your map, so do what you want.
The best maps are the ones we like the most after looking at the longest.

ok then make the water more unsaturated, more grey, so it doesn't seem so overpoweringly bright

You can be unique and still make it attractive

My suggestion: don't make the shallows darker, but make them narrower. i.e. get the darkness of the oceans closer to the shoreline.

That's what I was thinking, HoarseWhisperer - something of a compromise between the various suggestions. I was thinking having the deep areas of ocean as dark as Chick was suggesting, but keeping the shallows relatively bright.
Anyway, just to see how it looks, here's the map, modified how Chick suggested.

I'm not so much a fan of this, so I might lighten areas of it again.
    Also, what does THW mean?

Well, I think the idea here is to get all the ideas and opinions and suggestions and try them out. Then pick what you like the best

This is more like what I had in mind, but of course it's just ideas

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. What I've got now is absolutely an improvement on what I had originally though, so it's definitely helpful feedback people are giving.
Here's the latest version - I think this is my favourite one so far.

And yeah, Chick, I think that's far too dark for my tastes. I prefer a much higher contrast style, with more of the underwater terrain revealed. Thanks for the suggestions you've provided though, they've definitely been helpful in allowing me to find the style which suits me best.

I think you've got it now. Big improvement.

Always happy to help our Kiwi friends.

Oh, and THW is just shorthand for TheHoarseWhisperer. It's how I always sign off (although I'm thinking of trying to change my 'name').
