the ratio of Km / degree is vastly different in the "Prince Edward Isl " area on the east coast that it is on the Seattle area on the west coast

As THW suggested, I added slight diagonal lines on those metro areas too. I like it but hope the little ones are still easy to spot. And of course, a bit more of colors!

Maybe a brighter red and/or an outerglow and/or a white or light color circle background to make the m clearly legible? Otherwise it just looks great.
