Welcome! and Heck of a first post!
Thanks for the welcome and the comments and criticism guys! That really lets me know where I need to improve and my next map will be much better for it.
Deadshade, the lack of scale and odd climate on the south were due to project guidelines, but the coastlines and river flow are terrible, no excuse for those!
The paint over helps a lot, Azelor! Before I attempt map-making again I'll definitely have to read up on the articles about rivers and get a clear understanding about how they enter/exit and flow, as I don't want to make the same mistakes again. This time, it's painfully obvious that I had no idea what I was doing and I'm glad you guys didn't let me get away with that.
Eilathen, I'll see if I can upload a higher res later, or at least close ups.
Max, you're spot-on about the digital/hand-drawn divide, the overall style did end up being a little schizophrenic. I'll definitely keep this in mind for my next map so I get a more unified look.
Overall this map was a great learning experience and also a lot of fun to make, and I definitely plan to be a part of this community and upload more artwork in the future!
Welcome! and Heck of a first post!
Hello all,
We are WartimeGames, the company who commissioned jaceface to create the map of Atlaea.
Thanks for the awesome feedback We were thoroughly impressed with the detail and naming of different regions on the map.
If anyone is interested in the project...
Atlaea is part of the background story for our trading card game, Planet Spire. We recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise fund for more illusrations, manufacturing, and distribution for the game. Keep in mind, we will be looking for many artists to complete the project.
Anyway, the guild has many stunning creations; great work everyone!
