Info on Cartographers' Choice

Hey there. I've just been wondering about Cartographers' Choice. How and when is it chosen nowadays, and can anyone be chosen or do you need to be a long term member?

Hey Sarithus. I don't think you have to be a long term member though I am not completely sure how it gets picked and/or voted on.
Someone will come along soon and be able to clearly answer it for you though.

Everytime a Community leader likes a map, he add it's name in a virtual hat. When Robbie has free time (he is very busy), he pick one name randomly and submit it to the CL that will have to assume the burden of opening a new thread.

Actually, a BIT more democratic that that...but not by too much though. If a CL likes a map and thinks that it might be worthy, s/he will post the nomination to the CL forums where we get to kick around its merits for a bit. Things we take into account are overall appeal, Talent or skill on display, difficulty, originality and overall WOW factor. If there are no real objections, the nominator will usually post up the map a week or two after the nomination. And NO, your time in the Guild has nothing to do with the selection process. It is the overall quality of the map that counts. Doing anything else would diminish the award in my opinion. There are some great Cartographers out there who are not members of the Guild, and not acknowledging their skill in their first posted map that warrants it would be unacceptable. I believe that - Max - got his first very soon after joining this forum.

Just to add to what Korash has said, we CLs also take your input into consideration. There is a CC Nominations thread where guild members can nominate maps they feel are worthy of an award. Nominations don't always result in rewards, but often they do. You see, while these awards are intended to be a regular occurrence, the reality is that we tend to get busy and forget about them. When we see nominations it is a good reminder and motivating force for us. So let that be an encouragement for people to take the initiative and nominate away.
