    Default Hi! Hola! Hallo!

Hey there, I wrote a super long introduction but it was all lost when I tried to post it. So here's a short and sweet version.

My name is Lance. My normal circle of friends/players have all recently moved away. We're going to try to run a campaign through Roll20. I want to blow them away with my non-existent artistic skills and make the game feel more real for them at the same time, and that's how I ended up here.

If you want to say hello, or have suggestions for how to best accomplish the following maps, just hit me up. I'm currently using gimp, but I'm really comfortable changing that if you think another (free) software is significantly better.

Maps I want to accomplish by the first session:
World Map - Lots of islands and disconnected landmasses. Most are mountains and plains, with some deserts/forests/swamps.
"The Free Lands" (Name pending) - A stretch of coast hugged by mountains. Taliport and Wyvern's Rest would be on this map.
Taliport - Capital of The Free Lands. Large port city wrapping around a bay.
Wyvern's Rest - A long, rocky peninsula with a castle at the tip. Inspired by Wyrm's Head, Wales. About two days walk from Taliport.

Welp, it's not as nice a hello as I originally aimed for, but you seem like a nice community of people.

Hello Lance, welcome to the Guild! I suggest you start with the tutorial called Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Maps here http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276 and then from that go to Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged here: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655 . By the time you get done with those, you should be well on your way!

I'll look forwarding to seeing your world develop
