    Question Converting bitmap to vectors?

Is there a way to convert the outline of the land in my map, (done in GIMP), to vectors for use in Inkscape? I would like to "zoom in" on some regions for populating with rivers, cities, etc.

    Thanks

Inkscape has a "Trace Bitmap" tool under the Path menu. Just import the image select it, then select "Trace Bitmap" . Adjust the parameters of the trace to suit the image and your requirements, and away you go. You may need to adjust the settings a few times to get something reasonable.

For best results, trace a "filled" image rather than an outline. Land is black, water is white for instance.
