Thread: The New Canaan Corridor

    Wip The New Canaan Corridor

    Hello folks,

A few years ago I posted a map of "The Orion Arm" here. Here's a link to the original thread.

I've been working on the backstory since then and have decided to do another map focusing on "The New Canaan Corridor", a region between the Empire of Japan and the Democratic Federation. The plan is to go deeper into the details of that specific area of space and include more cool stuff.

Here's my progress so far, just getting the background details going.

I like what you have so far! The nebulas are well balanced : well done without being overwhelming. Waiting for the next steps .

Trying to figure out how to represent star systems on these sorts of maps are always kinda difficult. I wanted to do something more detailed than the icons on the larger scale map, but not so detailed that it would be a nightmare trying to fit a bunch of these on the same map.

Here's my attempt at making some cool looking star system things. Plan is to add little icons representing planets and suns on these "orbits".

That looks pretty good to me. The problem I encounter with orbits and planets is that you need to do a big picture and/or very inclined orbits if you want to get something easy to read. And, truth be told, I almost never cared about the distance to the sun part.

Started throwing in some names and a few additional details. Still a major WIP as you can tell.

    Click for big!

Decided to go back and revisit the background nebula as I was never quite happy with em, I think this is looking a lot better.
