Default September 2015 Challenge: City of Venora

Don't have much time, so will really have to dig deep to finish this in time. After seeing all the impressive entries this month – I just can't resist to pitch in with my idea. Now, no time to write, have to draw! Linking what I wrote earlier on to describe my take on a 'cold war':

"a "feud"/war between two ruling houses in a city – where the battle-place or scene of buildup would be the streets and places of the city. A Montague v Capulet sort of thing perhaps?"

This is what I have so far, early start!

    Cheers,
    Tainotim

    Welcome to the challenge, tainotim!

Boy, you are going to have to work fast to finish this one. I've liked everything I've seen in the past from you, so I'm sure you'll do a great job. I think you'll be the only entry so far to go micro (vs. macro), so that makes it more interesting.

Anyways, I like what you've offered so far.
The best maps are the ones we like the most after looking at the longest.

A hand-drawn city map in 2 days?! I'd be scared to give myself a month for such a project! To paraphrase The Bard's star-crossed tragedy, "Now, in these last two days, is the mad blood stirring!"

I love your concept, and the reference to the setting of Romeo and Juliet. I'd especially like to see more references to the play, if you can work them in. Have a couple of shooting stars cross each other above! Throw in an apothecary shop! Label a square "Thumb-Biter's Market!" Put in a picture of a book with "How to Kiss" on the spine!

If nothing else, though, you should put this quotation somewhere in there:
“Two households, both alike in dignity
In fair Venora, where we lay our scene
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean."

You know, we could probably do a whole challenge on Shakespeare and/or his plays.

Oh boy, this is indeed very ambitous! So great to see you working on this tainotim. Since you asked about this sort of a scenario in the challenge thread, i was hoping you'll make an entry.
It's great to see a wip from you again, so much to learn...

Big thanks friends! In worst case, I can always finish this of as a regular WIP afterwards (Wait, have I said that before? ). Now, no time for such grim thoughts. Onward!

Those ideas are great Coriolis! I will try to incorporate what I can with the time. I especially like the quote. Much appreciated
It's been some time since I did a proper WIP (start to end), so I'm happy you are excited about it Abu

Now, update. Actually managed to outline much of the remaining structures (my fingers are sad). Next, place these outlines in a context, and give it some body!

    Cheers,
    Tainotim

Hard work work. Hopefully I will have most of the BW done by tonight so I have time for coloring tomorrow.

That's some impressive progress. I'm curious to see how you are going to evoke the the cold war theme.

Almost there. Just have to do shadows and people!

Thank you Coriolis. Yea, as it is the theme really isn't evident. I will mostly do it through the people I draw, that are then described as chain of events happening in the places of the city – building up to the "war".

    Cheers,
    Tainotim

This is just sick how fast it came together, nice job, love the trees too. Any way to get off the small island, although its only a hop, skip and jump away.
