Nice first map post. Can you tell us a little about it, what story is behind it?
I made it for a friend. This is his description (without the info about the wards and districts:
Aetheridge is the capital city of the country Serhji. Built over the years this sprawling metropolis has become a hub of activity and a beacon of safety in unstable times. Surrounded by thick stone walls 40 ft high and protected by valiant guardsmen, the city has grown in size and population to rival any city the world has ever seen. Aetheridge is an industrial city that welcomes anyone willing to live within their walls and by their rules. Whilst racism always exists there are few overt cases of this being displayed, as such, one could be expected to come into contact with any manner of race inhabiting the city; from gnomes and dwarves to half orcs or elves.
The general population has a relatively close split of 60% human and 40% demihuman.
The city itself is build around the original Aetheridge city, the old city itself has become the nobles district, with the slums and industrial sections being moved outside the inner walls. The closer one lives to the nobles district the better off they are considered, with slums and industrial zones being relegated further away from the gentry.
The majority of the city is connected with gas lighting and heating, These services are provided by the city and funded through taxes. Some of the more run down districts such as the slums do not possess lighting, these areas are generally avoided at night.
Sanitation in the city has been established by small pylons crafted by mages and maintained by workers that regularly cleans the surrounding area of refuse and other concerns. The poorer districts lack these cleaning pylons as they tend to be looted shortly after installation.
The average citizen of Aetheridge can sound out letters slowly and know basic numbers. This is taught to them as children, paid by the city as it allows for a more functional society and allows for written missives to be distributed without any debates over understanding.
The primary transport system within the city is steam trolley. These devices run on rails set into the centre of the street and provide transportation from most key districts to others quickly. The Trolley system is cheap to use but not free.
I hope it helps.
