Default Nov/Dec 2015 Challenge: The Defiled Temple

Nov/Dec 2015 Challenge: The Defiled Temple

Diamond has challenged me with the this commission.

"And for you, Master Bogie, I think the following is right up your alley:"

    A Defiled Temple!

Once home to the forces of light and good, this ancient and magnificent temple sits in a mountain pass. Along with the fortifications to the north (not pictured ), the temple and its paladins were responsible for preventing the Great Evil Northern Horde (TM) from invading the Peaceful Generic South (also TM). But the defenders were betrayed from within, and the Horde swept in.

Now the temple has been re-purposed as a place of worship for the Horde's Devil-God. Your commission is to map this temple. It's a fairly small place, more of a regional satellite office than the main headquarters. It should be obviously dedicated to Evil, with human sacrifices, piles of bones, whatever other stuff you want to throw in, but peeking out underneath, one can see the remnants of the glory that once was - maybe the corner of an un-defiled piece of gleaming marble altar under the blood? I leave it in your capable hands!

Thanks Diamond, I shall do my best!

Now this sounds awesome! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Thanks, hopefully I will have some time this weekend to work on it.

I laid out the basic foundation for the temple and ended up with 2 versions and I can't decide which one I like best.

    Any opinions?

I don't particularly have a preference, but the second (without the annex) looks like a flower. I think that would help hint at the temple once being something other than what it is now: flowers are usually "innocent" and only used by "good" folk, right?

Both shapes are good, but I agree with soggymuse. I think the right-hand shape is the more interesting of the two. It feels a little more unusual than the other. But either would work well.

Thank you both for the comments, I was leaning a bit to the second one.

First update. I decided to start with the "Evil" altar in the center.

Added the seating and made a few minor changes.

Nice! I like the skeletons, especially the one on the bottom. It looks like he's just kicking back, not a care in the world.
