We've selected Chick as our artist for this project.
A group of friends and I are piecing together a "professional" roleplaying website over the next five months. We're hoping to have a detailed Wiki, a custom forum theme, as well as a whole list of customized plugins specially made for our shenanigans.
Because of our storyline, we're going to need a galaxy map made. A good one, and one that can be easily updated.
Here is a similar example: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8UUThnz8lM...1600/SWMAP.jpg
Our galaxy is the Milky Way, but the map itself would focus on maybe a quarter of the galaxy so that significantly more precise detail can be provided. As such, the background shouldn't be the entirety of the Milky Way and instead resemble the area we're focusing the roleplay universe on. We'll want empire borders, landmarks, trade lanes, and specific star systems to be displayed on this map. Because a large portion of our universe is community-driven, it should be easy for more empire borders, more trade lanes, more landmarks, and more star systems to be added as time goes by.
Ideally, we want to be able to add new star systems ourselves (so a PSD would be wanted) but we realize that may not be possible and, even if that were possible, it would still make it necessary for us to come to you for updates when new empires are formed and new significant details are to be added. As a result, we'll also want a quote for future changes to the map.
The dimensions should be large, something people need to zoom in on. We're flexible on the specific size. This would be used for a web display so a focus on print is not necessary. Scale is mostly irrelevant; it may be nice for there to be a bar on the bottom that lets the viewer know how many light years the map includes, but it's not a big deal.
The artist would be specially credited on a Credits page on this website, with a link to their portfolio/contact form if they so desire.
Please PM me with quotes and samples. We would be willing to pay via PayPal or an escrow service website (Freelancer/PeoplePerHour/something else). Milestone payments preferred. While we want to be accommodating for new artists, we don't have the budget to invest in a high risk project so we're leaning towards "safe" choices where the first go will be the right go. We're unsure when this commission will be happening. Since we are pushing for a March 2016 launch, we're hoping to be able to commission this map around January or February. This will largely depend on the cost of our website and the cost of this galaxy map.
Thank you everyone!
