I think I may have found it. Is it this one?
I see it's for PS but I might try it in Gimp and see how it goes.
The relief is done using a modified version of Ascension's Swiss Atlas style tutorial. It's in the tutorials section but I'll try to find a link to it when I get home tonight.

"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams"
Yep, that's the one.
Like Chick I really like your coastlines too. They are full of detail and no repeating patters.
Few of the mountains don't look fully natural near the coastlines. To my eye it looks like the coastline is cutting the mountains in some places. You could either remove some small parts of the mountains right next to the coastline or adjust the coastline to follow the shape of the mountain a bit more.
Al in all looks good and I need to keep an eye on this one.

Yep, you're right about that, Pasis, I need to fix it.
I think I've got all those 'overhanging mountain bits' cleaned up; if you see any I missed, let me know. I've finished all the rivers; I decided not to include forests. It ended up being too busy looking. Next up is placing cites and labeling. Any font suggestions?
Looks great so far D. Indeed not sure forests will be that much relevant regarding the scale, unless you have a giant one. As for the fonts, do you aim to a specific feel for this map?
I'm not sure about feel either - I'm open to suggestions there, too.
Very nice map, so far!
Is it just me, or the Bevel effect says "cliffs"?
Finally had a chance to work on this briefly. I kind of like the main font here - Augusta - what do you guys think? I also decided on a Greco-Arabian-Persian feel to the countries, so I may (probably will) redesign the outer border stuff to reflect that a little better.
