Hi from wet & windy Scotland! *waves*
Welcome to the Guild!
Boy, Maine sure is cold right now. Two pairs of pants, four jackets, three pairs of socks, slippers, a hat, and I'm still shivering!
Though as cold as it is, I bid you all a warm hello! I'm a novice writer hailing from the northernmost part of the USA, and I very recently got into the concept of map making for a world I'm currently writing for. It was a very meditative process when I first started off, but then I realized I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and decided it would be a good idea to find some resources to help me figure things out.
But enough about me. How are you all doing?

Hello Siniscarr, Welcome to the Guild!
To get you started, there is a great tutorial in the sticky section of Tutorials, called
Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276
From there, go to
Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655
Once you have completed those two tutorials, you'll be well on your way!!
I'm sorry, I have to laugh. I looked at Maine weather and it's so warm over there! I'm from Manitoba, Canada. We often have -30 C, and it almost never goes above 0 C in the winter. However it is an exceptionally warm winter and it has gone above 0 C a few times!! Quite incredible.
But welcome, I'm new like you.
Wimps. Come on, it's not that bad. I go snowmobiling every day with my brothers and sister.

Welcome thickbloods!
I used to live where it snowed but now I'm in the Arizona desert and my blood has thinned out so much I feel cold in the winter even though a part of me finds that laughable. On the flip side, I doubt you can handle the summer here and never mind actually working outside in it. I've seen a lot of folks get heat stroked and that's no good.
Hmmm, there may be a challenge map in all this weather diversity.
