Only thing I might have done different would have been the placement of the inset images and the title, maybe title size too.

Before I started with the inset illustrations I tested various layouts for placement before I went for the final one. I think it's the most efficient use of the available space.
I can see how that would be true. Any other layout would lead to a smaller landmass or a larger end size map.
