That happened to me once a couple of years ago, too. I think I put a note in this very thread about it, in fact. I wonder if there's some malicious injected code there that only responds to certain browser configurations.

www.dungeoncrafter3.com is a spam site. It redirects though a series of forwarders until you reach a scamming survey of some kind. Tried it in severla browsers on both Linux and Windows 7, same story. Might want to delete that link from the list.

Edit: and a quick note about Paint Shop SAI mentioned earlier on this page. My oldest daughter swears by it and uses it to make her storyboards and art for her cartoon, but it doesn't have a text tool of any kind. None at all.

OK - I pulled it from the list. Better safe than sorry. No idea if anyone thinks the list should be moved to one of the other posts listing other software. Might make it easier to keep track of.

    Link Google Faerun

I was surprised reading backwards that I didn't find anyone else mention Google Earth.
I've used it for years, taking my GIMP raster images and pasting them onto Earth, I can then Identify the cities, the trails, the points of interest on a the map and the user can zoom and tour the entire continent.
If you learn how to paste over top of the high level images with higher resolution smaller maps they will overlay and add even more fine detail.
I've actual created the forgotten realms (4E) in fine detail.
If you want to look at this, go to Google (http://www.google.com/earth/) and install Google Earth, then go to my Google Drive and download the .kwz file (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bxx...ew?usp=sharing). Warning, this file is just over 70mb, so it will take a while to download, and Google's software will warn you that it cannot scan for viruses.
I've just now posted a video I took of me using the tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-aA...=youtube_gdata

I see you linked my onedrive file, here's another copy of a decent soft i have on that onedrive account, https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...int=file%2czip this one is a simple fractal terrain generator, might be useful for some, I used to use it for Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset. The fellow that created this one also disappeared unfortunately.

RobA, thanks for putting together this excellent list of map-making software.

Would it be possible to add my MapForge application to the list? It’s not an already-shipping product, but it’s been successfully funded since day 1 of the Kickstarter campaign, so it’s definitely coming to market, probably near the end of July 2017.

Here’s the info for the list, in case the answer is yes.

    Title: MapForge
    Vendor: Battlegrounds Games
    Web Site: http://www.mapforge-software.com/
    Type: Raster & Tile Based
Focus: 2D top-down mapping, generally at the tactical battlemap scale
Platform: Windows 7-10 & Mac OS X (no native Linux support, but should be usable with WINE or Virtualbox)
Price: $30 ($25-27 during the current Kickstarter campaign)
    Description:
Locally-installed application intended for creating great-looking maps quickly and easily, either from scratch, with the help of a random generator, and/or using professional content Add-Ons. Offers support for layers, textures, and bitmap filter effects (e.g. drop-shadows, glows, blur, color/contrast/brightness adjustments, and bevel effects); Ten free content Add-Ons provide a great “Starter Kit”, usable without a license; huge selection of additional professional content Add-Ons for sale, some of which can be used for published or commercial map projects; supports print resolution as well as VTT resolution; artistic talent and technical skills not required.
    Examples:
Dungeon, Tropical Island, more coming soon

Also, if you scroll down a little bit on my website's Links page, there is a decent list of other map-making software that you might wish to add to your list.

Photoshop isn't in the list anymore.
