Thread: Hello mappers

    Default Hello mappers

Hi everyone my name's Jim and I'm from Grimsby in the UK. I've recently started playing Dungeons and Dragons as DM and I'd like to get some tips on how to make really beautiful and useful maps for me and my players to enjoy.

I had a go with some watercolours but the map feels like it's lacking something. I didn't think about scale when I drew it so it's not very useful either.

I'll be reading some tutorials and posting in the feedback sections in the futre.

Thanks for reading and I'll see you on the forums,
    Jim.

Hey Jim, welcome to the Guild! I'm sure Chick will be along soon to give you some very useful links to tutorials and stuff.

Also, don't be shy about posting your watercolor map! Maybe we can give you pointers on what you feel it's lacking.

Hello Jim, Welcome to the Guild!

Yes, Diamond is right, I usually post this info for newcomers looking for what to do first

To get you started, there is a great tutorial in the sticky section of Tutorials, called
Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276

    From there, go to
Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655

Once you have completed those two tutorials, you'll be well on your way!!

Thanks, those tutorials are great! I can already see many ways to improve my map, particularly the rivers, forests, mountains and coastline. I'll put up a thread about it and see if I can get some specific feedback and tips.
