    Wip Machana Mythos, Global Map; First Attempt

    So after using RobA's tutorial to make a base map, I found that making hand drawn mountains wasn't something I really wanted to do. So instead, I experimented with making another solid noise map ontop of the pre-made island continents and then coloring them down from brightest to darkest by hand using the select tool. I also really wanted to avoid hand drawn rivers because I spent 3 hours and didn't like anything I drew.

    I'm unsure of how it looks. I still have the XCF with all the original data so any tips and pointers could be made possible. I'd also like to thank RobA for the great tutorial and I'm sorry for ignoring half of it.

    I think it looks reasonably good. One technical problem is the map's proportions. In order to wrap around a sphere "properly", it needs to be twice as wide as it is tall. I arbitrarily appended the map to itself horizontally and got this result:

    Hey, sorry to jump in uninvited but I would really love to know what program you used to wrap the map onto a sphere. I'm creating a similar full planet map right now and could really use a way to show it on a sphere.

    That is a 3d program called Celestia

    unfortunately the code is starting to suffer what it called " Bit Rot"

    the GUI is gtk2 or QT4 ( the current is gtk3 and qt5 )

    as to editing a image -- likely Gimp of if MS windows was used then one of the photoshop versions

    there are a few ways to display a 2:1 simple cylindrical map
    Celestia
    Cosmographia ( related to Celestia )
    Blender ( 3d editing/animation )
    Space Engine ( uses CUBE maps )

    It doesn't do a great job, and I still haven't figured out the right dimensions to make it fit my map exactly, but it might help you.

    It's fairly easy to use Google Earth and create a .kml file that overlays your map over Earth.

    Ill have to try this as well.
