    Default My First Isometric Battlemap

    Hi there...

    I've been gaming for a very long time, and I've used VTT software to run my games for the last few years. I've mostly used borrowed maps...and of course, tweaked them using various art programs. I've recently developed an interest in isometric maps, because they just feel more immersive than standard top-down stuff.

    Anyhoo, here's my first completely original isometric battlemap. I figured I'd give it a shot, considering the amount of effort I've put into learning Photoshop over the last twenty years. This was drawn in Photoshop using a homemade iso grid. All textures are either made from scratch, from photos my son took, or from public domain images. Let me know what you think!

    looks very good. I have also been thinking of doing something similar. Is the shadowing made by hand afterwards or included in the "tiling" somehow??

    Really nice work, I want to look over the edge and see how far the water is. Really nice feel. Do you put this together with other ISO's? How is this used? Nice job.

    The shadowing was done by hand...after the layer textures were rasterized, but before the image was flattened.

    Thanks! Your comments are much appreciated. I haven't used it with other ISOs - it's the only one I've made so far. (Although I'm going to do another one for this week's session.) I used it in Maptools, a VTT program, as a battlemap for an rpg campaign. Maptools' isometric function uses a 2:1 axis ratio, so that's what I chose to use when I made my reference grid.

    Now I can see how you made it. I think I would have made tiles I think but yours gets perhaps better results. have you made layer styles for the walls?

    A small nitpick: The walls don't follow the curved floor. I have no quickfix for this though
