I love the way you've worked the alchemical symbols into the sea. That's beautifully done. I rather like the white land and grey sea. It's very clear and readable, and I think it'll look fantastic in the book.

    thanks very much ChickPea.

It did come out really nice. One thing that I've had to deal with for book publishing is I never know what kind of paper they are printing on. So some maps, that look great when you print them off a printer look fine, but when in the book, come out darker in areas. It's the nature of printing. The ink+paper stock+weather conditions+the age of the press are all factors out of your control.

For example, the US version has the map inside the book, while the UK version has it as the end-papers. Different quality of papers are used. The UK map in the book looks sharper and clearer, because less dot gain. Dot gain is the term printers use to talk about how the ink spreads on the page.

I could have went reversed, textured land, white oceans. But then I have lots of textures competing with the text and geographical features. Which would get blurry when printed.

So the choice to use white for the land was the best to insure readability.
