    Default Hello Cartographers!

    Hi there,

I recently stumbled upon your community while looking for some information on mapping. I wanted to attempt some mapping for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that I am in the process of creating, and I have found myself drawn into the world of cartography. I am still very new at this, but I'm hoping to learn and improve. I have already found resources on your forum to be very helpful, and I love looking at the maps that get posted here, so I thought I'd take the plunge and try to be a part of it.

I might as well attach my first real attempt at a map, completed this past weekend. Please be kind. And Thank you for having me!

Hello Weekend Wizard, Welcome to the Guild!

That's not a bad job for a first map, shows some promise

If you haven't already read it, there is a great tutorial in the sticky section of Tutorials, called
Quickstart Guide to Fantasy Mapping: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=4276

    From there, go to
Hand Drawn Mapping for the Artistically Challenged: http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=10655

    and then read
    Lineart Map Tutorial for Beginners:

Once you have completed those tutorials, you'll be well on your way!!

Thanks for the welcome! I will be sure to check out these guides. Currently I've only been working in Fractal Mapper 8, as I am extremely artistically impaired.
However, at some point I'll be brave and give actual drawing a try.
