Almost managed to miss this map somehow, but I definitely second what has been said so far. The colour scheme works well with the style of the rest of the map and I also love your compass and your little ship illustration.

I can definitely see what others have said about the forests and also the coastline (I think perhaps like you suggested the faded sea around it is too subtle and it almost looks like the island is floating in empty space and not the sea), but to be honest overall it looks fine.

You've done a great job on this little map, especially as you changed your mind as to what you wanted it to be part way through. Nice one ChickPea!

    Thanks, GLS

I think the forests suffered a little from my desire to be finished. When I work on something, normally I like to leave it for a while and look at it again a few hours later with fresh eyes. I feel I can more objectively assess it after I've taken a break. The forests were one of the last things I did on this map and I didn't step away, because I wanted to be done, and that was my bad. Personally I still like the coastlines and I'm quite satisfied with them, but I can perhaps see what you and Diamond are saying.

About the compass, ha, well that came about because I happened to read a review of the new Guy Gavriel Kay book due out in May (sidenote: I am DYING for this book to come out!) Anyway, I basically borrowed some elements from the book cover and incorporated them into the compass. GGK inspires me on so many levels!

Yeah, you've integrated that design nicely whislt also making it your own.

And in regards to the coastline, as long as you're happy with it, that's all that really matters. Different people like different things and it's not like this was a commision or anything.

    Looks great ChickPea
Your maps are looking really good, and your color schemes are very pleasant.
Now I want to see this pirate island

Nice map ChickPea! I agree wit other about the good mountains shading and the forests being a bit flat. In my eye, you share with Domino a knack for really cool soft color palettes!
