Maybe have a look through the archives for something that worked well a few years back? So many people taking part now weren't around 2 or 3 years ago, and would be happy to revisit an old challenge.
You're going to have to outdo yourself though after this month's success. No pressure!

I saw there were a lot of ideas in the Mapping Challenge Suggestions forum (http://www.cartographersguild.com/forumdisplay.php?f=60).
Else, you could always create an idea from elements like :
- a scale (building, dungeon, city, region, country, worldmap, solar system)
- a style (fantasy, steampunk, science fiction, realistic,...)
- a function (war map, trading roads, treasure map, political, natural ressources, tourism, adventuring spots, nautical map...)
- a story (journey of a character, historical record of a city siege and attack, potential locations for an escaped criminal, plans for a caravan attack,...)
This website is a great tool for generating ideas, maybe some of them will inspire you : http://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/random/#type=location
Yes congratulations Loukana, well deserved. This was my first ever participation in a challenge, I really enjoyed it.
Well done, Loukana!
This challenge made me realize that I have a question about the world of commissions for novels. I think all the novels I've seen with maps have them in black and white, unless it's some kind of special release. Yet, most of the entries in this challenge were in color. Do publishers often take color maps and turn them into grayscale for inclusion in a novel?

I have never done a commission for a novel, but I have read a lot of books. Generally they are black and white, but I can think of several books with color plates. Graphic novels and adventures are more likely to use color than a paperback. For this challenge, I never said it was a paperback so I left it up to everyone to do it the way they wanted, and assume that is what the author asked of them.
